LG unleashes curved 105-inch Ultra HD beast in the UK

£60,000. For that kind of cash you could put down a deposit on a new home, buy a twatty clutch bag from Selfridges – or get a new TV.

LG’s 105UC9 is a curved Ultra HD 3D TV with a resolution of 5120×2160, 21:9 aspect ratio and webOS

Landing at Harrods later this month the 105UC9 isn’t an OLED panel like many of LG’s high-end efforts, but it is the first curved UHD panel from LG to boast 21:9. LG says that it’s been able to prevent colour leakage on the curved display by refining existing TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology, which is used in the majority of phone displays.

Andrew Mackay, LG’s commercial director for consumer electronics in the UK and Ireland said:  “LG is known for its innovative and market leading technologies and we’re proud to bring our largest ever curved television to the UK, to be sold exclusively in Harrods.

“With a resolution of 11 million pixels, the 105-inch curved Ultra HD panel is proof of our continued leadership in the next generation display market, offering exceptional world-class value to our customers.”

For discerning buyers who simply must have an OLED TV, note that LG hasn’t confirmed yet if an OLED equivalent of the 105UC9 is in the works. Given LG’s forte in this area, we’re sure that the Korean giant has at least considered it.

While it’s still not known if this TV will be compatible with any future 4K TV channels in the UK, you will at least be able to stream 4K content from Netflix – provided you can get (and afford) a superfast broadband service.

To be honest, if you can afford to budget around a £60,000 telly you can probably afford what Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Hyperoptic, BT, Sky and the like are charging for their wares.

You can buy the LG 105UC9 now from Harrods through the Dixons concession.
