Now TV comes to EE TV set-top boxes

Premium Sky content is headed to EE TV thanks to the arrival of Now TV.

EE TV customers will be able access the full line-up of Now TV content – that’s Sky entertainment, movies and sports channels – on connected set-top boxes.

Launching on March 12, customers will be able to get shows like Game of Thrones, Girls and Fortitude and enjoy new seasons of Penny Dreadful and True Detective later this year, for £6.99/month.

A Sky Movies Pass will give you access to all 11 Sky Movies for £9.99/month. Sports fans can get access to all six Sky Sports channels for either £10.99 per week – or £6.99 for a single day’s access.

The channels may work out slightly more expensive than on traditional subscriptions but the option of accessing premium content without being drawn in to a long-term contract could be attractive for some buyers.

Pippa Dunn, EE TV’s chief marketing officer said: “We’ve developed the EE TV service so that exciting new content and services can be regularly added to enhance our customers home TV viewing experiences.

EE TV recently added BBC Connected Red Button, Dailymotion and kids on-demand service Hopster to its line-up of catch-up apps. It launched with access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Demand 5 and 4oD and at the time, EE’s marketing director of broadband and TV Sylvain Thevenot told us to expect a rapid rollout of catch-up services.

While we’ve yet to see Netflix land on the service, so far EE’s made good on that promise. Whether or not EE TV will continue to be developed once BT acquires the company – BT is a YouView shareholder – remains to be seen.

EE’s TV service already offers up Freeview with more than 70 channels including HD content, and the service’s 1TB smart box is bristling with connectivity options, with four HD tuners, gigabit Ethernet and dual-band WiFi.

The option to use your phone or tablet as a remote, via the available app, is a nice added convenience too, especially on days when you can’t be bothered to delve among the coins and toenail clippings down the back of the couch, to search for your real one.

EE TV is available now, free for new and existing mobile customers who subscribe to broadband plans of £9.95/month or more.
