The latest set of broadband figures from O2 show that over 40,000 subscribers jumped ship in the last three months.
At the end of 2012, O2 and Be’s total number of customers was 560,100. By the end of March 2013, this number had shrunk to 519,400, representing a loss of 40,700 customers.
Both O2 and Be have been losing customers since December 2010. This is despite O2 and Be ranking highly in Ofcom’s reports on broadband speeds. O2 and Be broadband services haven’t been exactly cheap though, so cost may be a reason as to why people keep leaving.

As superfast speeds reach more and more homes, those willing to pay more for the likes of BT Infinity and Virgin Media’s cable broadband will do so, while those after a bargain price ADSL service would opt for the likes of TalkTalk and Plusnet.
Sky recently reported big growth which has seen it creep into the number two position in the UK’s broadband league table. Sky has also recently acquired O2 and Be broadband customers and is due to start migrating customers to its network in the autumn.
O2 and Be customers may have jumped the gun and moved over to Sky already, in which case they might have missed out on some money-saving introductory offers. Or, they’re not keen on being Sky punters and have taken their business elsewhere.
For now, O2’s focus is preparing to launch its 4G mobile broadband services which is due to take place this summer, once the Freeview spectrum has been cleared.
