Sky Broadband price changes 2017: Will I be affected?

Price changes are afoot for Sky Broadband, Sky Talk and Sky TV in 2017. Here is when to expect it to kick in, how much extra you will pay and who will be affected.

Got a Sky Broadband, Talk or TV package of some description? There is a chance that you may have to pay more money in 2017, thanks to a price increase.

“There are no changes to our existing headline pricing for Sky TV bundles and the vast majority of customers will see no change at all to the cost of their TV package. We are also keeping line rental prices at their current level for customers who only take a landline from us,” a Sky spokesperson told Recombu Digital

As you read above, the “vast majority” will see no change to their Sky package (Sky declined to release any customer figures, as it does typically). It is those on a legacy product or ‘currently benefitting from a lower price’ that will have to pay more, as of the 1st of March, 2017.

Sky says the average bill of those affected will increase by less than £3 per month as it brings all customers into line with current prices. This includes a Sky Line Rental price increase to £18.99 (up from £17.40) except for customers who only have a Sky landline.

Sky Talk packages will remain the same. As for rates, those who decide to avoid taking a Sky Talk package will see an increase in call rates. Customers who have a Sky Talk package, meanwhile, will also see an increase in the rates of calls not included in the package.

A call connection will increase from 16.9p to 19p, a UK landline from 11.5p to 12.54p and a UK mobile from 11.5p to 19.35p (an increase of 7.85p) during the day and 14.25p (an increase of 2.75p) during the evening.

Sky Broadband price changes 2017: When will I be notified?

Any Sky Broadband, Sky Talk or Sky TV customer affected by the changes will receive a letter and/or email between the 25th of January and the 25th of February, 2017, within which the changes to the bill will be outlined. If you fail to receive a letter but think the price changes affect you, it may be worth ringing customer services to double-check.

Sky Broadband price changes 2017: What else has changed?

Sky has launched a UK-based Broadband tech team to ensure customers can enjoy being connected to the internet all-year round. Sky also said it will be introducing a brand new product aimed at customers who only want a landline from Sky and that is has chosen to keep the line rental price the same although it is unclear for how long.
