Sky Sports and Sky News hit Snapchat Discover

Sky has launched Sky Sports and Sky News channels on Snapchat Discover.

Users in the UK and Ireland will be able to tap into between 5-10 ‘snaps’ – short bursts of video, photos and text – every afternoon.

The Flipboard-meets-Blinkfeed-esque service dropped down on iOS and Android earlier this year and lets you dip into news and current affairs content from the likes of National Geographic, The Food Network, Vice and MTV.

Each story is headlined by a top snap, a 10 second telling of the story, which you can then swipe up from to get a long form piece of content.

David Gibbs, Director of Sky Sports digital media, said: “Sky Sports on Snapchat Discover is great news for those eager for the latest sports news. Whether that’s reporting on Daley Blind’s last minute equaliser at West Ham to analysis ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup we are really excited to be one of Snapchat’s first UK-specific partners as people look for new and innovative ways to keep up with what’s happened that day.”

Evan Spiegel, Snapchat CEO added: “We are huge fans of Sky News and Sky Sports and are grateful for the opportunity to partner with their outstanding team.”

Snap TV: Get short, snappy bursts of Sky TV action every afternoon

Reaching younger audiences or ‘millennials’ as marketeers like to say, is one of Sky’s priorities. Web content aggregator and streaming service Pluto.TV, which blends video feeds from The Young Turks, ScrewAttack, Minecraft Let’s Play footage – and, unbelievably, an entire channel dedicated to R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet – received a healthy dose of Sky investment last year, as did YouTube-based start-up Whistle Sports

If you downloaded Snapchat Discover when it launched back in January and you can’t see the new Sky channels, you should see everything post-update.
