TalkTalk has announced that it will be offering ultrafast broadband to customers within the boundaries of its York trial at no extra cost.
Back in May, TalkTalk confirmed that it would be launching a pilot ultrafast broadband network in York, in partnership with CityFibre and Sky. With the Ultra Fibre Optic (or UFO) service set to launch later this year, TalkTalk has now revealed its rather attractive pricing plans.
The UFO service will be included as standard with TalkTalk’s three consumer packages, SimplyBroadband, Essentials TV and Plus TV. Business users on the company’s Complete Business Broadband package – which is aimed at small to medium-sized firms – will be eligible too.
TalkTalk has revealed that customers signing up to the UFO service will be receive an ‘all in’ bill every month, rather than one which is split between services and line rental. Prices for the gigabit service will start at just £21.70 a month for SimplyBroadband customers and £25 a month for Complete Business Broadband subscribers, which makes it cheaper than other peddlers of ultrafast FTTP services like Hyperoptic.
Business users will be looking at a 24 month contract if they decide to take on the service, however, and home users will have to sign an 18 month deal. Still, that seems like a relatively small price to pay for dedicated fibre which won’t be subject to the same rigours and bottlenecks as so-called fibre offerings, which use the Openreach network.
If you want ultrafast broadband with a TV package, you can pay £26.70 a month for UFO with Essentials TV, which includes a YouView box, catch-up services and freeview channels. If you pay £36.70 a month you also get Plus TV, which includes Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky Sports News among its list of channels.
TalkTalk’s chief executive, Dido Harding, said: “The UK has lived with broadband infrastructure that has suffered significant underinvestment for too long and we lag well behind the rest of Europe when it comes to rolling out pure, ultrafast, fibre networks. We have the potential to become the world’s leading digital economy, but we need this kind of investment in superior fibre infrastructure to make this a reality.
“Ultra Fibre Optic will revolutionise the broadband experience in York by giving consumers and businesses access to all the speed and bandwidth they could ever need, at an affordable price, future-proofing the city and making York better off.”
Ultra Fibre Optic is expected to be switched on this autumn. In a pleasing show of loyalty to current customers, TalkTalk has stated that those who already subscribe to TalkTalk’s services can expect to take precedence over new customers.
