TVPlayer tablet app streams BBC, ITV, C4, Channel 5 and 20 legal free channels

iPad and Android tablet owners can now stream the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and 20 other channels legally with a TVPlayer app for larger screens.

The app features all the BBC digital channels plus 20 others, with Discovery’s Quest, MTV’s Viva, Movies4Men, More Movies and B4U Music slated to arrive soon.

Available on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon, the tablet version is designed to make use of the greater space available, following the launch of the mobile version in early January.

Adam Smith, founder and CEO of the Simplestream Group, said: “We are delighted to have achieved 250,000 downloads in the first few weeks and it is really exciting for us.

“TVPlayer enjoys excellent relationships with our channel partners who have all shown great forward thinking in embracing the internet and mobile as a new delivery platform for linear TV. We look forward to working closely with them all to ensure TVPlayer is a success for everyone involved.”

The full line-up includes music channels 4Music, heat, Kiss, Kerrang!, The Box, Smash Hits, Magic, Capital and Heart TV, Clubland, Planet Pop, AKA, and Now.

France 24, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera and Russia Today provide extra news outlooks, there’s Fashion TV, and international channels such as Sony SAB, Colors, and Rishtey.

The TVPlayer interface includes a seven-day programme guide that lets you set reminders, and 2014 should also see the arrival of pay-TV channels from Simplestream’s VuTV service on Freeview HD.

These include MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, History, Lifetime, H2 and CNN.
