Vevo’s livin la vida Virgin Media TiVo

Music streaming service Vevo is now available on Virgin Media TiVo in both app and channel form.

Virgin TV subscribers with a TiVo set-top box will be able to tune into the streaming service on channel 300 and 344, or access it through the regular Apps and Games menu, where you’ll find things like Netflix, Spotify and YouTube sitting pretty.

Vevo features a catalogue of over quarter of a million videos from over more than 20,000 artists, including David Bowie, Justin Bieber, Adele, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift. Vevo counts Universal and Sony as two of its co-owners, which means there’ll be no video content from artists signed to Warner Bros, unless a licensing deal is worked out.

Alex Kisch, EVP, Business Development and Business Affairs, Vevo, said; “This partnership with Virgin Media is indicative of continued growth and popularity of premium music videos in the living room, and the integral role it plays in our daily music habits.

“Our content is now viewed over 16-billion times a month, and we are thrilled to be expanding our reach through this partnership. This move will enable Virgin Media customers to enjoy Vevo, in a dedicated area, giving them premium music entertainment directly from their set-top box.”

As is the case with Netflix, YouTube and other on-demand services accessed from the TiVo box, Vevo streams won’t affect the bandwidth of your Virgin Media broadband service. This is because they’re delivered through the separate connection Virgin uses to deliver its linear TV content.

Vevo’s the latest content partnership Virgin Media’s signed following the deal with Starz network which saw Ash vs Evil Dead shuffling its way to British screens.

Virgin Media’s chief digital entertainment officer and former Sky executive David Bouchier has said that 2016 will be ‘an exciting year’ for Virgin Media, suggesting that there’s more deals in the pipeline.

Rumours of Amazon Prime Video coming to Virgin have persisted since 2014. With the new Clarkson, Hammond and May show due to launch later this year, inking a deal with Amazon would be a smart move for Virgin. Presumably if Ofcom’s Premier League investigation goes the way Virgin wants, the cable company may dip into its wallet for some live football rights too.
