Watch Jeremy Clarkson burn the BBC in Amazon Fire TV advert

Amazon’s launched a new advert starring ex-Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson that’s peppered with sly digs at the BBC.

The sting ostensibly exists to promote Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, an HDMI dongle that lets you access a wealth of on-demand services including Netflix, ITV Player and Demand 5, as well as Amazon’s own Prime Instant Video and Amazon Instant Video services.

In the ad, everyone’s favourite muzzle-hatched producer-punching petrolhead hoons around a country house on a customised Segway-type device and wryly notes, “Back in the spring, as you probably remember, I suddenly became un-busy.”

Wait for his reaction around the 16 second mark when the BBC iPlayer icon appears.

You can read our review of the Fire TV Stick here. It’s a great value for money device and a mandatory buy for anyone who’s got an Amazon Prime subscription.

The advert also helpfully serves as a reminder that a new Clarkson, Hammond and May show will be landing on Amazon next year – although it fails to answer the question of what the show will be called. The show is rumoured to be called Gear Knobs, following revelations that a legal firm acting on Clarkson’s behalf trademarked that name. Co-host James May was quick to dampen speculation, saying that the new show has yet to be named.

We are sad to note that the advert is 720p HD only. We’re hoping that Amazon don’t scrimp on the budget and let the boys film their new show with 4K cameras

The new advert will be shown on TV this weekend, but you can watch the clip in full now.

Amazon Prime Instant Video costs £5.99/month on its own, or it can be taken as a freebie with a £79/year Amazon Prime subscription.
