Amazon has announced that two hour-long pilots, including X-Files creator Chris Carter’s new show The After, will be exclusively coming to Lovefilm.

The pilots have been produced by Amazon Studios and will be available on both sides of the Atlantic at some point next year.

While launch dates for the pilots have not been given, Amazon released details about the two shows giving us an idea of what’s in store.

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to Lovefilm and the Amazon OriginalsCarter, who has not been involved with TV production since 2001’s X-Files spin off The Lone Gunmen, spoke briefly about what’s in store: “I’m very superstitious about talking about what I’m working on before it’s finished, and it’s more fun if it’s kept a mystery!

“Let me just say that this is a show that explores human frailty, possibility, terror, and the triumph of the human spirit. I’m so excited to be telling this story with Amazon in this new frontier of television.”

The After follows eight strangers who are brought together by circumstance and forced to work together to survive in a strange and violent world.

As well as The After, Lovefilm Instant viewers will be able to enjoy the pilot of police drama Bosch. Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling Harry Bosch novels, the pilot is being written by Emmy-nominated Eric Overmyer (The Wire, Treme).

The titular Bosch will be played by Titus Welliver (Argo, The Good Wife) and the pilot will also star Annie Wersching, Amy Price-Francis and Jamie Hector. Henrik Bastin (AMC’s The Killing) is producing and Jim McKay will direct.

While Netflix has powered ahead with its own Originals shows, chief rival Lovefilm is intent on catching up with some compelling exclusive content of its own.

The pilots will be available on Amazon Instant Video in the US as well as Lovefilm Instant early next year for all customers to watch and provide feedback. Viewer feedback will likely determine the fate of the shows beyond a pilot episode.

So far Amazon Studios has funded 11 pilots and its first two comedy pilots Alpha House and Betas with debut exclusively on Amazon Instant Video and Lovefilm Instant later this year.
