Froyo: Google unveils Android 2.2

Google has just announced Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) at its I/O Conference in San Francisco. As expected, Android 2.2 allows you to turn any phone running it into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and comes with support for Flash 10.1.

Phones running Android 2.2 will apparently run two to five times faster than they would with 2.1 installed. Other improvements include a faster browser, the option to update all apps simultaneously and automatic app updates – the days of “49 new updates found” messages will hopefully be a thing of the past.

Perhaps the best thing about Android 2.2 is that you can (finally!) save apps to SD cards. Watch the official video below to see Froyo in action.
