‘Gay Cure’ app pulled from iTunes

Apple has withdrawn the ‘gay cure’ app from its App Store, following recent outrage from gay activists and rights groups.

The app, which  somehow managed to pass through Apple’s notoriously stringent tests, was created by Exodus International, which calls itself “the world’s largest ministry to individuals and families impacted by homosexuality.”

One petition gathered over 145,000 signatures to get the app removed.

The app is now no longer available for download, while the page promoting the iPhone app on its own website has also been removed.

Commenting on the release of the app, Ben Summerskill, Chief Executive at lesbian, gay and bisexual lobby group Stonewall, said: ‘We’ve all been on this app for over a day and we can assure your readers it’s having absolutely no effect.

“Apple might consider thinking about their customer base in the future and the penchant many lesbian and gay people have for ethical consumerism before endorsing an offensive app like this.’
