A man who wore his Google glasses to the cinema was interrogated by the FBI, who thought he was illegally recording the film.
A Google glass wearer endured an hour-long interrogation by FBI agents, who thought he was illegally recording a film at a cinema. The man had been watching “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” with his wife when he was approached by law enforcement agents who pulled him in for a “voluntary interview”.
The man who wrote anonymously on the ‘The Gadgeteer’ Web site: “After an hour into the movie, a guy comes near my seat, shoves a badge that had some sort of shield on it, yanks the Google Glass off my face and says: ‘follow me outside immediately’. It was quite embarrassing and outside of the theatre there were about 5-10 cops and mall cops.”
The man went on to claim he and his wife, who were taken into separate rooms, were treated like criminals. Although the man insisted that the officers look through his Google Glass to see that he had nothing but personal photos of his wife and dog, the FBI wanted to discuss the matter further.
The man wrote: “They wanted to know who I am, where I live, where I work, how much I’m making, how many computers I have at home, why am I recording the movie, who am I going to give the recording to.”
Eventually, after going through the man’s phone, the Feds concluded he had done nothing wrong. The man was given four free passes to the cinema, although an apology was not forthcoming.
