HP to offer one last round of bargain TouchPads

HP has updated customers on the HP TouchPad stock situation, promising one final production run of its ill-fated tablet.

Spokesperson for HP, Mark Budgel, said on the company’s blog that: “Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand.

“We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase”.

This was echoed in an email sent out to interested buyers who had registered their email on the official HP site.

“Thank you for your interest in the HP TouchPad and webOS. The overwhelming demand for this product in recent days has made it difficult to fulfil your request at the present time, and we are working to make more available as soon as possible.

“While we do not yet have specific details, we know it will be at least a few weeks before we have a limited quantity available again.”

The HP TouchPad had hundreds of pounds knocked of the price of both its 16GB and 32GB models. With the smaller 16GB tablet priced at under £100, both tablets flew off shelves in a day, and several online retailers saw their sites crash due to the bargain hunter rush.

HP hasn’t yet commented on the future of its Pre 3 smartphone stock – rumoured to get a fire sale price-tag of around £50.
