HTC Apple patent problems, HTC says ‘we can work it out’

Unravelling the tangled web of patent disputes and counter demands, HTC say it’s willing to discuss moving forward and settling the legal problems between the Taiwan electronics giant and Apple.

Winston Yung, HTC’s Chief Financial Officer told Bloomberg that : “We have to sit down and figure it out. We’re open to having discussions. We are open to all sorts of solutions, as long as the solution and the terms are fair and reasonable.

“On and off we’ve had discussions with Apple, even before the initial determination came out,” he added.

The International Trade Commission has ruled that whilst Apple is violating two S3 Graphics patents regarding compression technologies, HTC has been caught doing the same to two of Apple’s own patents.

HTC had relatively recently acquired S3 Graphics for its patents. according to Phone Arena.

HTC, like several Android device manufactures, already pays Microsoft an amount rumoured to be around $5 per handset for the Android software-based patents.
