HTC Desire and Google Nexus One to get shiny new Super LCD screens

HTC’s Android handsets have become synonymous with brilliance, so it’s no wonder the company is having a hard time fulfilling orders using Samsung’s AMOLED displays. Rumours of AMOLED stock running low have been doing the rounds for some time.

Today’s announcement that Super LCD display technology will be making an appearance on a variety of existing and, presumably, some new HTC handsets later this year is set to make up for these shortfalls.

Offering similar viewing angles and “a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7-inch displays,” according to Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, the Super LCD displays are even purported to improve battery life. HTC reckons that power management is up to five times better than that of earlier LCD panels.

Working with these new Sony-made Super LCD screens, the Taiwanese company will be able to ramp up production capabilities and continue to meet consumer demand. The handsets with SLCD displays will be hitting the shelves later in the year.
