HTC Hero used to control Lego Mindstorms robot, blow minds

We love phones and we love Lego, so we almost fell off our chairs when we found this video of an HTC Hero controlling a robot. The Hero is running an Android application written by Enea Linköping, a Swedish technology company which specialises in operating systems. The app works using the Hero’s tilt sensor to control the robot lego car and connects via Wi-Fi.

An Enea blog post explains how the Swedish engineers used their purpose-built application to send commands to a Lego NXT brick. Due to Android OS 1.5’s limited Bluetooth support (not supporting the Bluetooth serial port profile, SPP), Enea used the Hero’s Wi-Fi to send information to an Ubuntu Linux Laptop with a TCP/IP to Bluetooth tunnel (just a raw tunnel, no logic or programming).
