HTC’s One M9 Plus has to be one of the worst kept secrets in the smartphone world and now it’s well and truly broken cover. A series of professionally rendered promo shots show off what looks like a Galaxy S6-style fingerprint scanner and possibly a super-sharp Quad HD screen.
The leaked images, which come by way of Chinese site MyDrivers, show the One M9 Plus’ buttons and body in extreme close-up. Once again HTC appears to have nailed the design, with sexy two-tone aluminium standing out from the HTC One M9.
One image focuses solely on the home button, a feature not found on the flagship One M9, which uses on-screen buttons instead. The presence of that button and the marketing pic’s focus on it has rightly led to many predictions that the One M9 Plus will boast a fingerprint scanner, like HTC’s One Max from back in the day. The shot also shows the bottom BoomSound speaker, which now spreads out either side of the button.
Another photo gives us a super-close squint at the lustrous gold rocker switch on the side of the device and the third draws attention to the device’s screen, which is rumoured to be a 2K panel – which makes sense, given that the display is going to be expanded in size to 5.2-inches.
The marketing images’ zoom-in schtick could possibly be a double-edged sword, also intended to draw attention to the One M9 Plus’ rumoured top-end zoom or macro capabilities, packed into the 20.7-megapixel camera.
What we know, or at least think we know, is that HTC’s new mega-phone will sport either a MediaTek MT 6795 chipset or a Snapdragon 810 – or possibly both, with some folk predicting two versions for different markets. It’s also likely to sport 3GB RAM, 32GB of on-board storage and a 2,840mAh cell, with QuickCharge 2.0 for speedy juicing.
Expect a 4-megapixel UltraPixel front-facing camera, while the rear will sport the aforementioned 20.7-megapixel snapper, backed up by a dual-LED flash.
The phone is expected to be shown off at HTC’s April 8th launch event and we’ll be reporting on all of the big reveals.
Earlier today, HTC unexpectedly revealed a new version of last year’s HTC One M8, called the One M8s. This phone packs many of the same specs as the original One M8, but ditches the Ultrapixel cameras for new dual 13-megapixel lenses, both found on the rear.
