Alongside the HTC Titan comes the HTC Radar, a slightly smaller (but not small) Windows Phone 7 phone that looks an awful lot like the leaked HTC Omega that we’ve seen recently. Smae phone, different name? Hmm…
Names and leaks aside the Radar looks the business. It’s got a 3.8-inch 800 x 480 WVGA screen, 8GB of internal storage, a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and by 512MB of RAM.
The camera unit, though coming with a smaller 5-megapixel sensor and a single LED flash (instead of two) is otherwise pretty similar to the one on the HTC Titan. You get an f/2.2 aperture and a back-illuminated sensor for shots in poorly lit locales and the same panorama stitch and burst shot software.
You get video recording at a maximum resolution of 720p and there’s also a front-facing VGA camera that’ll be compatible with the Tango video calling app and, eventually, Skype.
Like the HTC Titan, the HTC Radar will ship with Mango, aka Windows Phone 7. So you’ll benefit from the hundreds of changes that this brings, including faster browsing (with HTML5 support), better local search, group messaging, improved Facebook integration and all the rest of it.
The HTC Radar is available in two hues, a smoky metallic grey and the same white with metal bits scheme of the HTC Flyer tablet.
Speaking of the Flyer and the Titan, the HTC Radar is also compatible with HTC Watch, the on-demand movie downloads service. This makes the Radar the fifth HTC device announced so far that’s compatible with the service, the other two being the Sensation and the Evo 3D Android phones.
Again, taking another cue from its Titan sibling, the HTC Radar supports Virtual 5.1 surround, so playing movies form Watch or even streaming a simple YouTube clip ought to sound pretty good out of the speakers.
Pricing and full availability is to be announced; all we know for now is that the HTC Radar will be available in the UK from October onwards. Stay tuned for hands-on pics coming very soon, and updates on pricing and release times as and when we hear about them.
