Huawei Nova and Nova Plus price, release date and those all-important specs

IFA 2016: Huawei has unveiled the Nova and Nova Plus, two mid-range Android smartphones that are designed to keep up with ‘a fast-paced lifestyle’.

Nova means new in Latin, which is appropriate given the Nova devices are not a follow-on for Huawei’s existing Mate and P smartphones, yet the Plus does seem like a spiritual successor to the G8 from IFA 2015.

The Nova is the smaller of the two phones and has a five-inch, 1080p full HD display. Running the show is a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB of RAM and Android 6.0 aka Marshmallow and Huawei’s Emotion 4.1. A 12-megapixel rear camera and a 3,020mAh battery completes the show.

The Nova Plus – which should have been called the Super Nova but whatever – offers the same 1080p IPS LCD display but measures 5.5 inches. The camera is also different, at 16 megapixels, and the battery capacity offers a higher 3,340mAh capacity.

Both the Huawei Nova and Nova Plus feature a Type C USB port for speedier charging, 32GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card, dual SIM support, fingerprint scanner and an eight-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Huawei Nova and Nova Plus will go on sale from October 2016 in various markets, but the UK is not mentioned so the wait could be longer. Pricing starts from €399 and €429, respectively. Both can be had in either Prestige Gold, Mystic Silver or Titanium Grey colour schemes.
