You may not be able to afford a McLaren, but what about a McLaren smartphone? The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, to be precise, which is the first widely available smartphone to have a whopping 10GB of RAM.
Speed and performance. That’s what the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is all about, according to the former’s CEO, Pete Lau, and on technical specs alone it seems a fair assessment.
And yet unlike other car manufacturers equivalents such as the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS and Oppo Find X Automobil Lamborghini Edition, this one is somewhat affordable.
Priced at £649 in the UK and available from the 13th of December in Western Europe, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is largely similar to the standard OnePlus 6T already available except for a couple of noteworthy differences.
For starters, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition comes with an orange accent that nods to McLaren’s famous papaya orange it has used one and off for decades. It also has McLaren written on the back case, while the rear of the phone features a faux carbon fibre pattern – a lightweight material used in supercars and hypercars such as the Senna.
Beyond aesthetics, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition features Warp Speed charging. This technology allows the phone to recharge a day’s worth of power in 20 minutes, improving on the 30-minute Dash Charge. What that means is you will get a bigger charge in a smaller or the same time.
It also has the aforementioned 10GB of RAM, which should mean snappier performance although it would potentially be hard to notice unless you use both phones back to back.
You also get an orange USB Type-C cable, Type-C to 3.5mm adapter, case and a glass cube with an actual carbon fibre McLaren logo inside for a touch of desk bling potential (or extra clutter).
