Meizu Pro 5: Full specs and UK release info for this Exynos-rocking Ubuntu phone

The Meizu Pro 5, a super-powered Ubuntu mobile packing the same Exynos 7420 processor as Samsung’s Galaxy S6, has launched in the UK and Europe. Here’s what we know about the Meizu Pro 5’s specs and features, as well as the UK price and release date.

Meizu Pro 5 specs and features

The Meizu Pro 5 is officially the world’s most ridiculously super-powered Ubuntu phone, boasting Samsung’s Exynos 7420 processor which blows away the rest of the competition in benchmarking tests and can run the latest games with a perfect frame rate. But what else can you expect from the Pro 5?

Well, it’s bloody big too, packing a mighty 5.7-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD resolution, giving 387 pixels-per-inch. Despite this, the Pro 5 is surprisingly slim at just 7.5mm, and it’s almost the same weight as the Galaxy Note 5 at just 168g. Design-wise, the phone is reminiscent of Huawei’s top-tier mobiles like the Mate 8, with a brushed metal backing that comes in gold, silver and grey.

Housed on the back of the Meizu Pro 5 is a 21-megapixel camera with laser focusing and a dual LED flash. You also have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for snapping that beautiful mug of yours.

The rest of the Meizu Pro 5’s specs are rounded off with 3 or 4GB of RAM, a 3050mAh battery which can be charged via the Type-C USB port and either 32GB or 64GB of storage, expandable via a microSD memory card slot.

Meizu Pro 5 UK price and release date

The UK price and other global costs for the Meizu Pro 5 will be revealed on Monday 22nd February on Ubuntu’s blog. We’re expecting the Pro to rock an asking price well below premium hardware like the Galaxy S6 and Samsung’s Note handsets, despite that Exynos processor. And the phone should hopefully go on sale in the UK in March.
