After plenty of leaks, Motorola has officially announced the Moto G. As expected, it’s an affordable alternative to the Moto X, with a similar set of software features and design. Just like the Moto X, the phone is curved to sit comfortably in the hand, while a specialised coating helps protect against splashes from water. That doesn’t mean the phone is waterproof, though. Naturally, the phone comes with removable back covers that will come in a range of different colours.
Specs include a 4.5-inch 720p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, and a 5-megapixel camera. Motorola says that the Moto G will come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 out of the box, although the phone is “guaranteed” to receive an update to KitKat in January 2014.
Motorola’s pricing for the handset is extremely aggressive too. In the United States, the unlocked 8GB version will be sold for $179, while the 16GB model will retail for $199. Here in the UK, we’re expecting the prices to fall somewhere between £135 and £160 – an amazing price, if the phone holds up under scrutiny.
