We go hands-on with the Motorola Moto G4, the 2016 update of Motorola’s popular Moto G mobile, in our unboxing and in-depth first-look review.
We’ve spent a few hours with the new Moto G4 and already we’re liking this affordable Motorola mobile, an update on last year’s brilliant Moto G3. Here’s our unboxing and hands-on video and comparisons with other Moto G handsets. And don’t miss our full in-depth Moto G4 review and Moto G4 camera review, after a full week of intense testing.
Moto G4 unboxing and hands-on review
At 5.5-inches, the Moto G4 is a bit of a beast and one of the biggest affordable phones of 2016. You may struggle to use it one-handed if you’ve got diminutive mitts, but the slender design is attractive enough (and fully customisable via Motorola’s online Moto Maker service). And of course, that bigger build means a massive Full HD screen (packing 401 pixels-per-inch) for enjoying your movies, shows and games, or just a spot of web browsing.
So far the Snapdragon 617 processor, backed by 2GB of RAM, seems to handle Android Marshmallow perfectly. We’ll be fully testing the Moto G4’s performance and battery life for our in-depth review of course, but the first few hours have certainly been encouraging. We’ll also be fully testing the 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras, to see if they can beat the Moto G3’s excellent and dependable camera tech.

Moto G4 vs Moto G4 Plus, which should I go for?
Of course, the Moto G4 isn’t the only new Moto G handset that Motorola launched in 2016. The Moto G4 Plus is also incoming, although despite that name, it’s not a bigger version of the Moto G4. Rather, the Moto G4 Plus boasts some upgraded specs compared with the Moto G4, including some sexed-up camera tech.
