Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition hit the UK

Motorola has brought two new tablets to the UK market, with both the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition available now from the Carphone Warehouse.

Both devices include a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, scratch-resistant displays courtesy of Corning Gorilla Glass and a splashguard coating.

The Motorola XOOM 2 sports a 10.1-inch widescreen HD display, while the smaller Media Edition has an 8.2-inch display.

So what’s new? Well, the Motorola Xoom 2 is approximately 100 grams lighter than the original Xoom and Motorola says its new display is brighter and more vibrant than before. The edges have also been strategically designed to make the tablet more comfortable to use.

The Xoom 2 Media Edition, on the other hand, has been optimised for entertainment. Cue a wide, 178-degree viewing angle that can be shared with the person sitting next to you or held up to show someone across the room.

The big disappointment in the specs is that both models ship with Android Android 3.2 Honeycomb rather than Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition Wi-Fi edition costs £299.99, increasing to £399.99 if you include 3G. Meanwhile, the Motorola XOOM 2 Wi-Fi sells for £349.99, while the same model with 3G costs £449.99.
