Microsoft has whittled down its CEO shortlist to around five people

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will leave the company in 2014, but who’s going to replace him? Reuters reports that current choices include Steven Elop, the former CEO of Nokia, as well as the former CEO of Skype, Tony Bates.

The publication says that the shortlist has been narrowed down to five people, with other candidates including Alan Mulally, an executive at Ford Motors, and Satya Nadella, a cloud and enterprise chief at Microsoft.

Reuters says that it may still take a few more months for Microsoft’s board to narrow down its choices. It’s still in the process of interviewing candidates, however, with choices including those from consumer backgrounds.
