Possibly one of the most attractive Nokia phones to have come out of Finland, the Nokia E71 combines solid features with a Qwerty keypad.
What we like
From the moment we took the E71 out of its box we were impressed by how attractive it is. The E71’s slim metal casing looks great and feels robust, its screen is bright and its Qwerty keypad well designed.
We would go as far as saying the E71 has one of the best Qwerty keypads we’ve ever used. Each key on the keypad is large enough to press properly and makes texting and emailing a joy. The email client supports a variety of web mail services and Microsoft Exchange.
Even though it’s so thin Nokia still managed to cram HSDPA (3.5G), Wi-Fi and GPS into the E71. We downloaded Google Maps to navigate around town and it worked well as did the Opera Mini browser, which we recommend downloading.
What we don’t like
We found that E71’s 3.2-megapixel camera’s shutter lag was quite long, which meant photos came out blurry if you didn’t hold it absolutely still. The lack of a standard 3.5mm headphone jack also annoyed us, and a small but relevant niggle is the lack of folder support for Microsoft Exchange.
Conclusion
This is a superb smart phone and a great choice if you like writing long messages, emails or chatting using a mobile IM service. Aside from the lacklustre camera and poor folder support in Microsoft Exchange, we think this is one of the best phones out there.
