Orange Monte Carlo aka ZTE Skate emerges: Gingerbread phone coming soon on pay-as-you-go

Remember the ZTE Skate that we saw earlier in the year? Well we’ve just spotted it cropping up on an Orange coming soon page under the guise of the Orange Monte Carlo.

No pricing details have been mentioned yet. But we noted that the Monte Carlo will be available on pay-as-you-go, suggesting a low price point. Orange and ZTE are obviously hoping to repeat the sleeper hit success of last year’s San Francisco aka the ZTE Blade.

The phone’s specs make for an interesting read; you get 2.3 Gingerbread, the current version of Android, a 5-megapixel camera and a large 4.3-inch capactive touchscreen.

Orange’s spec sheet also mentions that Signal Boost/smart Wi-Fi is included; provided by Kineto Wireless, this basically allows for more seamless transitions from 3G to Wi-Fi. Orange’s HD Voice, allowing for clearer reception is also included.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Monte Carlo is priced; the San Francisco cost around £100 when it launched and fairly recently took a price tumble to £70. We think that taking a gamble with the Monte Carlo will be a safe bet for Orange – it just depends on how it’s priced.
