Price of Samsung Galaxy Note increases in the UK

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it preposterously massive smartphone or a titchy tiny tablet? It’s all of those things (except the first two): it’s the Samsung Galaxy Note. And while we’re itching to get our hands on our review model, would-be note customers in the UK have awoken this morning to another price hike from gadget retailers Clove.co.uk, who are now pricing the Note SIM-free at a Croesus-worthy £670.

Samsung announced the Note at this year’s IFA conference in Berlin, with Samsung’s DJ Lee calling it a “completely new category” of mobile device. Measuring in at 5.3-inches, it’s a whole inch larger than the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the HTC Sensation and comes with a stylus, making it the most expensive notepad you will ever buy. It has lots to recommend it: a Super AMOLED screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and all the usual Android bells and whistles, but £670? It’d almost be cheaper to buy a phone and a tablet separately for that amount of cash.

Clove have said that the price is still subject to change ahead of the Note’s November launch, but that this is the most accurate estimation of how much the Note will cost that they can give. “We provided an indicative price of 500 pounds + shipping + VAT. This price was the most accurate estimation that we had at the time of listing the product, but we now subsequently have a revised and more accurate price. The new price for the Galaxy Note is 559 pounds + shipping + VAT.” Said Clove in a statement.
