Samsung Galaxy Note: Official gallery and specs

UPDATE: We’ve now got the specifications; that’s a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen, running at a whopping 1280×800 resolution. Behind that there’s a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and as expected, it’s all running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The Galaxy Note’s camera will match the Galaxy S2’s 8-megapixel offering, and the front-facing camera is a 2-megapixel affair. Some specifications are a bit muddled; whilst the live presentation boasts that the profile is just 9.65mm thick, the press release suggests that it measures in at 12.3mm. Battery size is either a whopping 2500mHa or a slightly weedier 1200mAh. We’re trying to contact Samsung to confirm specifications.

Samsung are calling the tiny stylus the S-Pen, which pairs with a small button which activates the stylus features. The S Memo app found along the bottom will allow you bring together hand-written notes, photos, audio and more.

The Galaxy Note is set for a global release, but there are no specific dates or prices just yet.

While we’re still awaiting the full details of the new device, it appears to be a big-screened Android phone, with stylus input.

Yes, rub your eyes, but you read it right, the mysterious Galaxy Note will be channelling the ghosts of mobile past with what appears to be a capacitive touchscreen for finger-based interactions.

Other details are still a little short on the ground- the stylus clips into the base of the phone, whilst the camera’s paired with a flash. Nothing yet on whether that’s a 5 or 8-megapixel snapper, but it  matches the wafer-thin design of the Galaxy S2 – but minus the chin. All in all, a very nice sliver of a smart phone.

The Galaxy Note is expected to appear in Samsung’s launch later today, alongside a new ‘wave’ of Bada devices and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 – a new tablet rumoured to be packing a premium Super AMOLED screen.
