Samsung Galaxy Pocket confirmed: budget Android mobile phone

Samsung has introduced a new Android mobile phone into it’s 2012 line-up. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket sits at the affordable end of the Galaxy range.

Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is overlayed with Samsung’s TouchWiz UX interface, with access to features like Samsung Apps, ChatOn messaging and Social Hub for social networking.

In terms of design, it looks unmistakably like a Samsung Galaxy phone, with a central control button and black finish. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket is smaller than Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 with a 2.8-inch 240×320 screen, the same as the Samsung Galaxy Europa, which it is superceding.

A feature common to Samsung’s 2012 line-up is the inclusion of built-in memory. Here there’s 3GB internal, along with a microSD expansion slot. Other features include a 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera, FM Radio, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi and 3.6Mbps HSDPA.

Simon Stanford, from Samsung comments: “With the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, we are building on the features we know our customers enjoy and get the most out of. This new device adds further breadth to the choice of smartphones we currently offer and provides a smartphone experience for even more customers at an affordable price.”

Samsung can’t confirm the exact launch date of the the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, although it will be available in the UK later this year.

With the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, it appears Samsung has three phones at the low-mid price: Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, Mini 2 and now the Pocket. Although it’s good to see all budgets catered for,  we think it could get a little confusing for customers.
