Samsung Galaxy S4 Active shown off in photos, video

It was just yesterday that we saw yet another reference to the Galaxy S4 Active name, and now the phone itself has been caught on camera and in pictures. GSMArena managed to score some snaps of the handset thanks to a tipster, showing a phone that doesn’t just mimic the design of the Galaxy S4.

Instead, the handset really does look like a more rugged version of Samsung’s 2013 flagship. For starters, the three Android navigation keys at the bottom of the phone are all physical, featuring a new design and layout that we haven’t seen from Samsung before. The back of the phone doesn’t look like the glossy plastic we’re so used to seeing either, and the red colour scheme actually looks pretty cool.

According to GSMArena, specs for the handset will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.9Ghz, along with the same 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display found on the Galaxy S4. The camera, however, will be 8-megapixels, down from 13-megapixels. MobileTechReview also managed to get some footage of the phone on video from a tipster, showing off the chassis a bit more while reaffirming the rugged nature of the handset. Look closely at the microUSB port, for instance, and you’ll see a protective flap, not unlike the Sony Xperia Z.

There’s no word on when the Galaxy S4 Active will be announced, but given the recent spurt of information, we expect to see an official unveiling shortly.
