Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom to feature 20-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom?

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom could make an appearance as early as next week.

After finally getting the Galaxy S5 reveal out of the way, Samsung is now reportedly moving on to other devices within the range and, according to sources, first up to bat will be the brand new Galaxy S5 Zoom (successor to last year’s S4 Zoom, naturally), bristling with photographic tech, which we could be seeing as early as next week.

The Galaxy S5 Zoom promises to be a photographer's wet dream.

The device looks set to include some impressive technology, and at the top of its spec sheet is said to be a 20-megapixel CMOS sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation, Xenon flash and 10x optical zoom, which will put the device up there with the best snap-shooters in the business on hardware alone.

Alongside its photographic chops, S5 Zoom will also offer Android KitKat out of the box, with the latest version of TouchWiz keeping it company, and also a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720P display, 2GB RAM and a 1.6GHz quad-core chip, which should keep the device ticking over nicely.

The presentation at which the Galaxy S5 Zoom was reportedly revealed operated a strict ‘no photos’ rule (make of that what you will), but it was suggested that the device will rock a new design with no protruding lens and a much sleeker body, in line with the top-end smartphones currently on the market, though quite how Samsung will offer that 10x zoom without an advanced lens is anyone’s guess.

This info may turn out to be wrong, of course, but we’re optimistic that we’ll soon have some smoking new Samsung hardware to play with. Of course, there’s no word on pricing or availability quite yet, but that will undoubtedly follow in the coming days.
