Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge hands-on review | MWC 2016

Hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge at Mobile World Congress: Samsung’s second S-branded bender boasts a superfast camera, a slick waterproof body and expandable memory.

As with last year’s Galaxy S6 Edge, those curvy edges haven’t been rolled out just for show; swiping in from the right for example sees you able to jump to a list of your most regular contacts, where you’ll be able to quickly fire off messages and calls.

That said, we’ve found that the rounded edges mean that it can be tricky for people who aren’t endowed with massive meat hooks to swipe up and down with one hand; that 5.5-inch Quad HD (2,560×1,440) resolution screen isn’t what you’d call tiny.

We’ve been able to have a quick play with the camera and see some of that dual pixel power promised in Samsung’s keynote in action. The Galaxy S7 Edge is indeed very quick to focus and it takes stills near-instantly.

There’s also a plethora of camera modes to play with, including a virtual shot mode, which lets you create a pseudo-3D wraparound image of stationary objects, hyperlapse, slow motion video and an interesting-sounding food mode, which will no doubt delight those who obsessively Instagram each and every meal.

If you’re sold on Samsung’s ability to make a flat screen curved at the edges, it looks like you’re going to have to shell out an extra £50-£70 if you want an S7 Edge over the standard Galaxy S7.

We’ve got all of the currently available prices rounded up here. For a side-by-side comparison of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, check out our separate hands on video here and Samsung’s official specs of both phones to see how those measure up.
