Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 could be the best tablet of 2015

Samsung is reportedly getting ready to launch the Galaxy Tab S2 and it could be even better than last year’s 5-star Tab S, with a metal frame that’s thinner than Apple’s lauded iPad Air 2.

Update: The Galaxy Tab S2 has now launched, check out our full Tab S2 run-down.

According to SamMobile, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 – the sequel to 2014’s incredible media machine the Galaxy Tab S – is taking the fight to Apple’s iPad Air 2. The device is set to be thinner than Apple’s top-tier tablet, which is already a measly 6.1mm thick, and there’s rumours that it’ll sport a sexy metallic frame to make it just as easy on the eye.

Rumours say the Galaxy Tab S2 will be available in two sizes, 8 and 9.7-inches. Looks like Samsung has shaved a little off the original Tab S sizes, which came in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models, and that change in screen size is apparently down to Samsung’s decision to alter the tablet’s aspect ratio to 4:3 (matching the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus).

We don’t know what sort of guts Samsung’s new premium tablet will sport just yet, but chances are it will make use of the company’s new line of Exynos processors and may well feature a bump in RAM too.

Samsung’s decision to go head-to-head with Apple’s market-leading Air 2 tablet isn’t likely to be accidental. Samsung has spent the last year building its team around people who know the Cupertino company well, adding illustrious names like Lee Don-tae to their roster to breathe new life into their design philosophy.

There’s no word on when we’re likely to see this new and improved Galaxy Tab S2, but we’re guessing it’ll launch some time shortly after MWC, most likely April or May.
