The Samsung Galaxy View is an 18.4-inch behemoth that has to be carried around like a suitcase. Here’s our hands-on impressions and all you need to know about the Galaxy View tablet.
Samsung’s Galaxy View is one crazy hybrid device, a bizarre amalgamation of tablet and TV. There’s no way you could call this mighty 2.65kg tab portable, even though it features a built-in handle. You won’t be able to throw it in a bag to take on the commute. But if you want a big-screen device that you can take camping or anywhere lacking in proper tellies, the Galaxy View is certainly an option.
That 18.4-inch screen is comparitively low-res with the 1920×1080 pixel resolution giving you a measly 120 pixels-per-inch, but the View isn’t meant to be used like other tablets, with your face in close proximity. Rather, you’ll most likely be using it as a mini TV, watching from afar.
Inside you’ll find a 1.6GHz octa-core processor of Samsung’s own design, along with 2GB of RAM and a choice of 32 or 64GB of storage (expandable via microSD). There’s a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera for Skyping, but no rear camera. Because that would be bloody stupid.
The 5700mAh battery will apparently give you eight hours of video goodness, if Samsung is to be believed. We’ll let you know if that’s true in our full Galaxy View review, coming soon.
