If you’ve been holding out for the new Samsung Gear S before investing in a new wearable you’ll be pleased to know that the device will be available from 7th November – this Friday.

The Samsung Gear S will be one of the priciest wearables you can slap on your wrist this Christmas

You may, however, be a little surprised by the price; Samsung has set the RRP for the Gear S at £329, making this easily one of the most expensive wearables on the market – but will it have the chops to wear that price-tag with pride?

Samsung has gone down the semi-standalone route with the Gear S, giving it 3G connectivity, allowing users to make calls and send texts from their wrist provided call forwarding is set up from a smartphone in the first place. The device will also offer WiFi, a 2-inch Super AMOLED curved screen and it’s IP67 certified, making it resistant to both dust and water – features which are must-haves for a truly useful smartwatch.

Ines van Gennip, the IT and Mobile division marketing director for the UK and Ireland arm of Samsung said “This is an exciting and dynamic time for the wearable technology category and we are delighted to be leading the innovation drive, delivering products that truly redefine the mobile experience for customers by offering greater flexibility and freedom on the move. Combining a sleek, stylish design and Super AMOLED screen with 3G connectivity, the Samsung Gear S is the ultimate smart wearable device.”

Samsung has also included an array of sensors on the device, such as a UV sensor, accelerometer, GPS, gyroscope, compass and heart rate monitor, making the Gear S the perfect accompaniment to active users – and those looking to get up and improve their fitness. Nike+ Running and S Health features which come preloaded onto the device should be perfect for getting a measure of your overall fitness and improving it incrementally.

The device will be available exclusively to Samsung Experience Stores, the Samsung.com shop and O2 customers, with other retailers to follow in the coming days and weeks.
