Sony gets into selfies with Xperia C3 smartphone

Sony has smashed its way into the selfie smartphone market with the new Xperia C3 mobile, which packs a 5-megapixel front-facing camera boasting a wide-angle lens and LED flash.

After Huawei’s Ascend P7, which crammed an 8-megapixel snapper above the screen for the ultimate selfie shot, we figured the whole selfies game was in the bag. However, Sony has made a late play for the selfie crown with its new Xperia C3 smartphone, and its 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing lens – complete with LED flash for the ultimate nightclub selfies.

You can take a front-facing shot by doube-tapping the back cover, which should help eliminate awkward fumbling while you line up with nightclub hotties. And Sony has even added its slick Superior Auto mode for the front-facing lens, which helps you to take excellent photos in pretty much any conditions with little effort. There’s also an HDR mode for dealing with dodgy lighting (but sadly no orange correction tool, so Essex dwellers beware).

If you actually care about the non-selfie specs, the Xperia C3 sports a 5.5-inch screen with a 720p resolution. It’s powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM, and there’s 8GB of storage (expandable via microSD), plus full 4G support. And yes, there is a rear-facing camera too, this one an 8-megapixel snapper.

The Sony Xperia C3 doesn’t have a UK price or release date yet, but it is set to launch globally in August with the first handsets hitting China. We’d expect it to come with a mid-range price tag, probably around £250-£300. Are you a selfie hound, and if so, are you tempted? Let us know in the comments below.
