Sony Xperia C4 launches, promises explosive selfies

Sony’s new Xperia C4 is an affordable phone packing a 5-megapixel selfie camera and a sharp and spacious 5.5-inch Full HD screen.

UPDATE: Sorry to say that Sony has just confirmed that the Xperia C4 is not coming out in the UK any time soon. Looks like you’ll have to import if you’re interested. Frowny face.

Here in the UK we might still be waiting for a follow-up to the excellent Xperia Z3, but Sony Mobile hasn’t been slouching of late. As well as launching the Japan-only Xperia Z4, the Japanese giant has just announced its new Xperia C4, a mid-range handset packing some seriously competitive specs.

Billed as a selfie cam, the Xperia C4 sports a 5-megapixel front-facing Exmor R lens, complete with a flash for those essential snaps in the club. You’ll also find a 13-megapixel camera around the back.

The Xperia C4 should also satisfy if you want to stay entertained on the go, thanks to the big 5.5-inch IPS screen. Your high-def movies should be nice and crisp, with a 1920×1080 pixel resolution. You have 16GB of storage for your media and photos, expandable by a further 128GB via microSD.

Power is provided by a 64-bit 1.7GHz MediaTek processor and we’re pleased to see 2GB of RAM on board, which should hopefully mean no stuttering or other performance issues when playing around with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Sadly the Xperia C4 isn’t water resistant, but it is ‘scratch resistant’ at least. The phone sports the usual Sony design, with nicely rounded corners and a plastic back that comes in three colours: white, black and green.

So far we don’t know the Xperia X4 price or release date, but we’re expecting it to emerge in May for around £300.
