Sony whips out its 6-inch Xperia C5 Ultra

Sony’s back with a brand new bloody big blower, the Xperia C5 Ultra, which packs a mighty 6-inch Full HD screen, as well as dual 13-megapixel cameras.

Phablet fans and anyone who loves a spacious phone screen to enjoy movies and apps should check out Sony’s freshly-launched Xperia C5 Ultra. The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra follows on from previous Ultra phones (including last year’s T2 Ultra), packing a Full HD 6-inch IPS screen and a solid set of specs, and it’s already looking like a serious media machine for those on a budget.

The Xperia C5 Ultra’s scratch-resistant frame might not be water-resistant, but it’s reasonably slim and light considering the sizeable screen, at just 8.2mm and 187g. We like the look of the curvy body and the screen packs some seriously thin bezels, stretching almost edge-to-edge.

You get a pair of 13-megapixel Exmor RS cameras, one on the Xperia C5 Ultra’s back and another positioned just above the mighty screen. You get video stabilisation and HDR built into both cameras, along with 1080p HD recording.

Performance is provided by a 1.7GHz MediaTek processor, backed up by 2GB of RAM, which should prove ample for dealing with HD media and the latest games. You also have 4G support for streaming movies and music, plus 16GB of storage (expandable via microSD) to carry your media around.

So far Sony has no plans to release the Xperia C5 Ultra in the UK, but we reckon that’ll change soon. Otherwise, it’ll be available on import.

Sony also just launched its new Xperia M5 mid-range mobile, which packs seriously impressive flagship-style specs including a 21.5-megapixel camera. These new handsets already have us excited about Sony’s September 2nd launch, where we’re expecting to see two all-new flagship phones revealed.
