Sony Xperia U now available on Three

UK mobile operator Three has just announced that the Sony Xperia U is available now via its online store and it will be available as of tomorrow (22nd May 2012) through its retail outlets too.

The device will be available from £15 a month on Three’s Essential Internet 100 plan (30 days of all-you-can-eat data, 300 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts) and £20 a month on its Essential Internet 500 plan (30 days of all-you-can-eat data, 500 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts). You can also snap up the device on Pay As You Go for £179.99.

Sony’s so dubbed “Iconic Design” comes part of its Xperia range, with clean lines, flat sides and regimented square corners that a Sargent Major would be pleased with if he saw them on your freshly made bed. At the lip of the Xperia U you’ll find an interesting addition, an almost transparent strip which illuminates to various colours dependent on what you are viewing on the screen.

Overall the device is a good looker and although it may appear slightly small with its 3.5inch screen, it easily forgotten that this is the same as Apple’s iPhone. It also sports an impressive 5mp camera with 1.5 second image capture and Sony’s Exmoore R sensor technology, helping with low-light photo snapping. The Sony Xperia U is the lowest spec of the Xperia range, but still comes with a more than adequate 1GHz dual-core processor and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Sylvia Chind, head of handsets at Three said, “We’re confident that this stylish and affordable smartphone will appeal to fashionistas who can customise the colour and look of the Sony Xperia U™ to their mood or outfit. With the latest technology also built in, and on Three’s fast network, this phone really does have it all.”
