Tesco Mobile offers free 4G for PAYG customers

Lovers of speedy mobile broadband rejoice, as Tesco Mobile is now offering a free 4G upgrade to pay-as-you-go (PAYG) as well as pay monthly customers on selected handsets.

Tesco Mobile has announced an upgrade to its pay-as-you-go (PAYG) service, which brings nippy 4G mobile braodband to all customers at no extra charge, along with some new data bundles and 4G-compatible devices.

Touted as the cheapest 4G PAYG service in Blighty, Tesco Mobile will be offering its bundles for the same price as its standard data plans, with a choice of data caps between 500MB and a whopping 8GB.

If customers opt out of buying a bundle, they will instead pay 10p per MB data, which is the same charge as its standard data costs. Considering how fast you can blow through those megabytes, the data bundles still seem like the obvious choice.

Tesco Mobile has also added a number of new 4G-enabled smartphones to its line-up, including the Motorola Moto G 4G and the Nokia Lumia 635 that will cost £139 and £119 respectively. The company already offers the Apple iPhone 5C (£409), HTC One M8 (£515), Sony Xperia Z2 (£540) and Samsung Galaxy S5 (£545) for those looking for a flagship device.

Simon Groves, Chief Marketing Officer from Tesco Mobile said: “The world we live in is becoming ever more fast-paced and data hungry. No one likes being made to wait around and we see no reason why our pay as you go customers shouldn’t have access to the same speeds as pay monthly ones; which is why we now offer 4G to all our customers at prices that are accessible to everyone.”

Tesco Mobile first launched its free 4G tariffs scheme to pay monthly and SIM-only customers, back in January. Previously, it charged a £2.50 a month premium for the service.
