View-Master 2009: Make your own virtual reality goggles

Using an HTC Magic and Google Street View we’ve made a simple pair of virtual reality goggles that let you immerse yourself in distant locations. You can also use these goggles with augmented reality apps — although you probably don’t want to walk around with them all day long.

All you need to lose yourself in the streets of Paris or San Francisco is a large piece of cardboard, a pair of safety goggles, some sellotape, a pen, a ruler, a craft knife and a smartphone that can run Google Street View. We think you’ll agree that’s a bit cheaper than booking a holiday and going to these far off places.

So take a look at our video and let us know if you’ve built your own VR set up.
