What will Apple announce on June 8th?

Bad news for Apple TV fans, but WWDC 2015 should see Apple revealing plenty of details on iOS 9, possibly the slickest iPhone and iPad OS to date.

According to the New York Times, Apple won’t be debuting its new Apple TV box at this year’s WWDC, which gets underway on Monday evening UK time, despite rumours suggesting heavily that the upgraded device would be launched. Apple is thought to have put the next-gen streaming box on ice “because the product was not ready to be demonstrated,” meaning we’re unlikely to see it before Autumn time.

The newest iteration of Apple TV, which is tipped to include app store support, voice commands courtesy of Siri and a touch-enabled remote control, has been in the works for some time. With Apple’s annual conference fast approaching, we hoped that we’d finally get to see the device in the flesh, but it looks like Apple is doing the right thing and holding back for now. After all, how irritating was it when the iWatch was launched, many months before it actually hit stores?

Instead, attendees of the high-profile conference will have to slake their Apple thirst with other cool new announcements, such as – of course – iOS 9. As we recently reported, the latest iOS is finally expected to support actual multi-tasking as well as smart maps, which will serve up bus, train and underground timings – something that Google just beat them to here in the UK. We’ll also eventually get indoor mapping too, allowing you to better navigate major structures and landmarks.

Google Maps extended its own smart mapping facilities recently and rolled out transit information to a bunch of new locations, including the Netherlands, Budapest and the UK, and Apple’s own service, which has struggled for traction since its launch back in 2012, looks well placed to stay up to speed with the industry leader.

Apple is also expected to unveil the newest version of OS X at this year’s event and it’s thought that the tech giant will also take the wraps off revamped streaming music and radio services, with which the company hopes to take on Spotify.

The company could also announce the expansion of Apple Pay to other countries besides the United States at the event. Canada is expected to be the first non-US territory added to the service’s roster, with a November launch pencilled-in, and European countries could be added in time for Christmas.

It’s also likely that Apple will drop some new Homekit-related news on us, with the first bunch of intelligent home appliances due to launch in the US this week.

We’ll be covering Apple’s WWDC 2015 launches live here on Recombu.
