The very best 8-bit recreations of classic albums

We check out the very best 8-bit rehashes of classic albums, from Pink Floyd to Radiohead, which you can enjoy right now for free.

Pink Floyd: The Wall

Dedicated Pink Floyd fans have probably listened to The Wall about a hundred million times, on a dozen different formats and while on about a dozen different substances. But even obsessive Floyd fans probably haven’t heard this 8-bit version of The Wall, which you can check out on YouTube.

It’s hard not to shiver when the haunting 8-bit chords of Another Brick In The Wall start up, while tracks like Run Like Hell and Don’t Leave Me Now will get you tapping your toes. The general melancholic mood is perfectly suited to 8-bit and this could easily be the awesome soundtrack to some messed up JRPG about a kid who discovers he’s actually his own mother.

Beatles: The White Album

If you fancy a more up-beat slice of classic rock/pop, then look no further. A lot of love has gone into recreating the entire White Album in glorious nostalgic 8-bit goodness, and we struggled to listen without a massive gormless grin on our faces.

Of course, The White Album isn’t the only Beatles LP to receive some 8-bit love. Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is also available on YouTube, as is Magical Mystery Tour. That’s Friday’s soundtrack sorted.

Radiohead: The Bends

There’s something about The Bends that makes it a perfect 8-bit soundtrack. High and Dry, Just and Street Spirit are impressively just as catchy as ever, while the likes of Black Star are eerie enough to make the hairs on your arms stand to attention.

Nirvana: Nevermind

This version of the album is worth it for the excellent Smells Like Teen Spirit rendition alone. Good work, Cobain, your spirit will live on for all eternity in NES-inspired form.
