TalkTalk’s latest router promises triple-speed WiFi with better range and has a built-in fibre modem for superfast broadband.
The Super Router is based on Huawei’s HG635 hardware and boasts 802.11ac connectivity, using both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at up to triple the speed of the previous TalkTalk router.
It also sports a built-in VDSL2 router, so you won’t need a BT Openreach FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) modem if you upgrade to superfast fibre broadband.
Tristia Harrison, managing cirector for consumer at TalkTalk said: “We’re watching more online TV, connecting more devices and in the last six months alone TalkTalk homes have doubled the amount they download.
“Our new Super Router is our most advanced yet and it’s optimised to meet our customers’ ever increasing needs.
“Coupled with our Superpowered Fibre broadband, the Super Router allows busy families to do more online at the same time, safe in the knowledge that they have a super quick, reliable connection with an unbeatable range. “
The router will be included in all new TalkTalk Superpowered Fibre broadband packages from May 24, and will also be available to existing TalkTalk fibre who sign a new 18-month contract.
TalkTalk pointed to independent testing by IOT & Approval Solutions that put the new router ahead of flagship routers from BT, Sky, Virgin Media and EE.
The data is said to reveal that the Super Router is fastest at 2.4GHz and has the best performance at its maximum range, with the lowest rate of dropped ping tests. The Super Router also has 3×3 MIMO antennas which TalkTalk claims will focus the signal towards devices.
The Super Router isn’t the first from a major ISP to feature WiFi AC: that honour goes to the BT Home Hub 5 launched last year.
It also boasts four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, allowing up to 1000Mbps connections around your home network for streaming video and moving files around, with a USB 2.0 port for external storage and printers.
The router comes with an integrated Self-Help and diagnostic pages to help customers in a fix. TalkTalk said this was a first for the company and will be rolled out across the existing router base as part of the continuous improvements to its service.
The Super Router will also be available to all new TalkTalk Business direct fibre customers soon.
