Video: How to set up LG QRemote IR control on the LG Optimus G Pro

LG’s Optimus G Pro smartphone will come with a built-in infra-red zapper and the QRemote control software. Here’s how to set it up – if you can get one.

It’s demonstrated here by LG’s Mike Jones on a prototype of the LG Optimus G Pro, which he’s already mirrored to the LG LA860W using NFC Tag On and Miracast.

Unfortunately, UK consumers may never get to enjoy it because the Optimus G Pro is not scheduled to go on sale here, and LG says it has no plans for any other IR-equipped UK handsets.

QRemote supports around 95 per cent of the world’s IR remote control codes for TVs, home entertainment gear and other devices such as air conditioning.

There are several view modes to access different types of control – volume, number pad, playback and so on.

There’s  a lock screen mode so you can control devices without having to unlock the phone, and if you have an LG Smart TV, it can use your phone’s accelerometer and microphone to imitate the LG Magic Remote’s motion-sensing and voice control functions.

You can set up devices for five rooms, preset as Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Study and Office, with a streamlined process of selecting device and manufacturer, before testing the codes.

Although IR zappers are being introduced to more phones, such as the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S4, QRemote will be restricted to LG’s own handsets. Which we might not be able to get hold of.
