Sky showing Channel 4’s London 2012 Paralympics coverage

Along with carrying all of the BBC’s HD coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games not to mention Eurosport’s 3D footage, Sky will be broadcasting all of Channel 4’s coverage of the Paralympics.

Six new channels will be set up, dedicated to broadcasting Channel 4’s live coverage of the events including basketball, swimming and athletics.

Everything will be broadcast in both HD and SD – three of each – meaning that 5 million of Sky’s subscribers with Sky+ HD boxes will be able to enjoy the action in high definition 1080i HD.

EPG numbers for the channels have yet to be announced but they will be in the Sports section. Naturally, you’ll be able to set up recordings from the EPG or using the Sky Remote Record apps and services.

Stephen Van Rooyen, Managing Director of Sky’s Sales and Marketing Group said in a statement:

“We’re pleased to be offering our customers comprehensive coverage of one of the world’s most spectacular sporting events as it comes to London. With three dedicated channels offering live and uninterrupted coverage of the games, our customers will have more choice than ever before over which events to follow, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the Games in stunning HD and record their favourite events using Sky+.”

Virgin Media is broadcasting the BBC’s HD coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside Eurosport’s 3D coverage as well. No word yet if Virgin is planning to broadcast Channel 4’s coverage but the quad play provider has shadowed Sky’s Olympic moves thus far – we wouldn’t be surprised to hear an announcement in due course.
