Video: Sky Sports F1 for iPad app hands-on

The Sky Sports F1 for iPad app has gone live on iTunes ahead of the inaugural 2012 Grand Prix weekend, starting on Friday in Melbourne.

The app is free to Sky Sports or Sky HD subscribers and costs £4.99/month for non-Sky subscribers – at £40 for a year that’s only twice the price of the official F1 timing app, which doesn’t have video.

Sky Sports’s director of digital media, David Gibbs, walked us through the Sky Sports F1 for iPad app at the official launch event.

You can download the Sky Sports F1 for iPad app from iTunes.

It provides live streams from up to nine feeds from practice, qualifying and the race, including on-board cameras, pits, driver tracker, highlights and timing pages.

There’s a race schedule, drivers’ and constructors championship standings and a ‘best of Twitter’ feed to keep you in touch with expert commentators, industry voices and the F1 fan community. New features coming later this year will include side-by-side live feeds.

Sadly for Android fans, there are no plans to launch an Android edition this year because the market is too small and fragmented.
