ZTE Grand X IN Preview

The ZTE Grand X IN is the new flagship phone from the Chinese phone manufacturer. In looks and specifications it is very similar to the ZTE Grand X, which we saw earlier this year, but the ‘IN’ in the name refers to the key differentiator – the Intel Atom Z2460 processor.

Intel’s chip includes a host of technologies designed to ensure the phone remains fast, yet power consumption is low and the battery lasts longer. It’s the first time ZTE has used an Intel chip in its smartphones.

The ZTE Grand X IN is a plan looking phone, with four capacitive Android controls, a 3.5mm jack for plugging in headphones and a microUSB port for charging. NFC is included for contactless payments, while DLNA enables wireless streaming. At 4.3-inches the screen is the same size as the ZTE Grand X,  with the same qHD (950×540) resolution, which impressed us with great colour reproduction and viewing angles.

The phone runs Google’s Android operating system, specifically version 4.0 – or Ice Cream Sandwich. Although Google has launched a newer version of Android – Jelly Bean, it’s a rarity to see and many handsets are still being upgraded to ICS.

On the back of the ZTE Grand X IN sits an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, which also shoots full HD movies, on the front there’s a VGA camera for making video calls.

ZTE has confirmed the phone will be launching in Europe in September, so we’ll bring you a full review as soon as possible. There’s no news yet on how much it will cost, but with its Intel chip, we’re expecting it to be more expensive than the £200 cost for its predecessor, we are certainly curious to see how it compares to the Grand X with its Tegra chip.
